Action Research Consulting
  1. What is Action Research?
    Action research is a scientific methodology and an approach towards bringing positive changes in the organisation by:
    • COLLABORATING WITH THE CLIENT’S TEAM in developing a deeper understanding of the concerns/opportunities facing the organisation.
    • Bringing the RESEARCH EVIDENCE on the issues such that the actions are not ‘hit and trial’ but are informed by science, thereby increasing the PROBABILITY OF ITS SUCCESS.
    • Collaborates with the client for GETTING THE ACTIONS EXECUTED, MAKING POSITIVE CHANGES.
    • DEVELOPS THE CLIENT’S INTERNAL RESOURCES (people, processes, and systems) for addressing future challenges themselves.
    • Contributes to the discipline of management and scholarship by creating knowledge and its publication, leading to the BRANDING OF THE ORGANISATION and making knowledge available for others to benefit.
  2. How Action Research is Different from Traditional Consulting?
    The table below best explains the difference between Action Research and Consulting:

    1 ‘Recycles Solutions’ and exemplifies what Abraham Maslow stated, “I have the hammer—where is the nail.” Develops a deep understanding of the unique situation of the client and develops a customised, Research-Based Solution.
    2 The output of consulting is invariably a report at an exorbitant cost. This report is generally filed and often not implemented Output is positive changes in the organisation by the action-researcher collaborating in implementing the actions decided.
    3 Most have no experience in execution and change management; hence, the proposals can be impractical. Have experience of execution and expertise in change management such that proposals are pragmatic.
    4 Draws on their inventory of models and past solutions, imposing them upon the client’s current situation. Draws on research evidence on the client’s specific situation. Action researchers believe in Kurt Levin’s saying, “There is nothing as practical as a good theory.”
    5 Does not create new knowledge as the approach is mostly to re-cycle existing knowledge. Creates new knowledge leading to the branding of the organisation and benefits others.
    6 Low value-for-money as the consulting outcomes are less practical and therefore often NOT  implemented. Very high value-for-money as the action research projects lead to positive changes in the organisation.
  3. Significance of term HYPERSPACE

    Hyper Action Research Consultancy

    The concept of Hyperspace is borrowed from theoretical physics and it symbolises the philosophy of HARS.

    Hyperspace is the science of HIGHER DIMENSIONS. At a higher dimension, events lend themselves for a better EXPLANATION and PREDICTION. For example, a battle-field when viewed at two dimensions is all chaos; the moment one gets to the third dimension of height, patterns emerge that are better understood, explained, and predicted.

    Similarly, applying the principles of SYSTEM SCIENCE, HARS gets to the higher dimensions that contribute to many problematic effects of an organisation. By identifying and addressing an issue at a higher dimension, HARS</strong gets to the ROOT CAUSE does not only solves the problems but makes them REDUNDANT.

  4. Significance of Logo

    1. DESCRIPTION OF WHAT IS SEEN: The HARS logo has figures of a Question Mark and a Bulb. On the bulb is written the acronym of the firm’s name and the name of the firm is on the top and the signature line “Creating Positive Futures” is at the bottom.
    2. QUESTION MARK: The Question Mark signifies what Werner Heisenberg, one of the founding figures of quantum physics stated: “Having the right question is more than halfway to the solution of the problem.” Peter Drucker also cautioned that the effective managers of the 21st century will not be those who have the answers but who ask the right questions. Therefore, to find an effective solution, we question a lot to diagnose correctly and therefore our solutions are impactful.
    3. BLUB AND THE ACRONYM “HARS”: The bulb signifies illumination or finding the right solution to the client’s concerns. We carry out a lot of studies to find a solution that has a massive positive impact. The acronym “HARS” signifies the unique methodology that we employ to find solutions, namely moving to the higher level of abstraction—the hyperspace—that enfolds many of the problematic situations or has the solution to capitalize on the many opportunities.
    4. SEMI-CIRCULARLY WRITTEN FIRM’S NAME: This signifies and celebrates the UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION of the firm and reflects genuine pride in what we are doing for our clients and more importantly, our approach towards doing it.
